Are you stuck with Time Warner Cable? Did your internet get all funky tonight? Don’t worry: you’re not the only one—and you may be able to fix the problem pretty easily.
Starting a few minutes ago, TWC subscribers across the United States began complaining of widespread internet issues, and the terrible cable company was quick to acknowledge the problem on their Twitter, though they didn’t give specifics:
Based on my personal experience—I ran into the problem just a few minutes ago—at least one of their problems appears to involve Domain Name System (DNS) protocols and certain websites, like Google. If you’re using Google Chrome, you may be seeing an error message like “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET, ” which is more than a little freaky if you just want to check your e-mail or read Kotaku.
Fortunately, there’s an easy fix: just do a search on your computer for “Command Prompt, ” right-click the icon, choose “run as administrator, ” type in “netsh winsock reset, ” and hit enter to reset your network API. It worked for me—I couldn’t connect to the internet at all until I did this, and now all is good.
